Ps3 160 slim ps2 games

Also, if you're pining to play your collection of PS2 games on Slim, you'll be disappointed to note that backward capability remains a thing of the past the option only existed only on some of the earlier PS3 systems Sony released. The story here, then, is all about design, and it's generally a good one. For starters, the Slim is 33 percent smaller and 36 percent lighter than its predecessors, and it really does look significantly more compact when you put it up against the "fat" PS3.

Beauty, of course, is in the eye of the beholder, and many people, including this reviewer, think the Slim's new frame is fairly fetching. Yet, we've also heard people say that the new "textured," or matte, finish gives the system a cheaper look. Maybe so, but pick the Slim up and it feels quite substantial. And while we're sure Sony doesn't want people referring to the Slim using adjectives like cheap except when it comes to the price tag , the company does want this PS3 to appear more "casual" and appeal to a wider audience read: casual gamers.

In that regard, the PS3 Slim's new design and finish seem well thought out. And the new system is not without a little glam--there's a mirrored strip on the front of the unit next to the opening of the slot-loading disc player and some glossy plastic on the sides. Those shiny finishes, like the glossy finish on the "fat" PS3, do pick up fingerprints, and it's also worth noting that the matte finish does absorb the oil from your skin and attracts smudges.

In other words, if you end up handling your PS3, expect to have to wipe it off from time to time just like the old "fat" model. Some people will like that the master power switch is gone, but parents with small children would probably prefer if Sony had left it on the back to keep their toddlers from accidentally turning on the system.

The new button in front is nice and responsive and doesn't require too firm a touch to turn the system either on or off this system appears to boot up just as quickly as the old system--in just less than 20 seconds , so your little ones will have no problem firing up your PS3 in your absence. According to Sony, to achieve the new small size, the internal design architecture of the PS3 Slim has been completely redesigned, "from the main semiconductors and power supply unit to the cooling mechanism.

The PS3 Slim is powered by a new 45nm version of the Cell processor, which runs at the same speed as the 60nm processor in the "old" PS3 but is smaller and more energy efficient. Company representatives said that power consumption for the Slim has been cut from watts to watts.

We'll be verifying the Slim's power consumption with our own independent testing soon. Ramping down the power consumption and, more importantly, the heat the system generates has let Sony tone down the cooling fan. With the Slim, you'll still hear some fan noise if you're close to the unit, but the hum is fainter, and it shouldn't bother you during quieter scenes in movies so long as you're not sitting right next to the PS3.

Fan noise on the previous systems varied wildly; some were noticeably loud, others were all but silent. We also noticed that after playing a game and Blu-ray Disc for more than an hour, the light breeze the fan emitted was warm but not hot you can hold your hand up to it without fear of getting scorched. A couple final notes about the design: With earlier PS3s you could prop your unit up vertically or lay it down horizontally.

To remove the hard drive, you simply unscrew two screws on the bottom of the Slim that are covered by a small door that snaps open and closed. The only caveat: the Slim uses the smaller 2. They're more expensive than the larger 3. We ran some tests of disc load times and some basic Blu-ray performance tests and came to the conclusion that the Slim runs just as well as the older model and keeps the PS3 near the top of our Best Blu-ray Players list.

Play your downloaded game. Select the game to start playing it. Jailbreak mod your PS3. If you have a jailbroken PS3, you can use it to play most PS2 games. See Jailbreak a PS3 for instructions on jailbreaking your PlayStation 3 if you can handle these risks.

You'll need multiman, the most common game manager for jailbroken PS3s, installed as well. This comes with most custom firmware packages. Insert your PS2 disc into your computer. You won't actually be playing the game from a disc on your jailbroken PS3. Instead, you'll be creating an image file of the disc and then adding the PS2 Classics emulator wrapper to it, allowing you to play it as a PS2 Classic.

You'll be doing all of this from your computer, and then transferring the finished file to the jailbroken PS3. Create an ISO from the disc. You'll need to use a disc imaging utility to do so: Windows - Download and install InfraRecorder, a free, open-source disc imaging program.

Mac - Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder. Download the custom firmware tools you need to run ISO files. You'll need two different packages, which you'll be installing on your PS3.

Place the downloaded files in the root directory of a USB drive. Place the ReactPSN. All of these should be located on the root of the USB drive not in any folders.

This is the slot closest to the Blu-ray drive. Select the file on the USB drive to install it. You should see it in your Game section after installing don't run it yet.

Create a new account on your PS3 named 'aa. Log in with your regular account. You don't need to use the newly-created account, just log in with the one you normally use. Launch multiman and select the Retro section. This is where you'll find all of your old games, including PS2 games. Select the game that you want to play. After the conversion is finished, the game will say 'PS2 Classics' before the game title.

Select the converted game to load it on your XMB. You'll be returned to the XMB after selecting it. This will load the game that you converted, and it will begin playing. You have to make do with either PlayStation Store or jailbreaking.

You can use a DualShock 3 controller to play PS2 games. If you are having issues playing with a third-party controller, try an official controller. The update can erase some files. If it was an update from Sony, it will remove the jailbreak and you will need to jailbreak it again. You need to follow the steps outlined above. If you don't, multiman will not be able to play the games.

You could try, but it is likely that the actual GPU is too badly damaged at this point to work even after doing that. Replacing the GPU is possible and is likely the best solution should you choose to do this. All slim PS3s are not backwards-compatible. You will have to purchase from the store, jailbreak it or get another PS3. I came across this recently and was wondering if anyone has tried this on a PS3 slim model. And also if it works? I believe this update is a required download in order to get the disc based PS2 games running on one of those models PS3 consoles. ElDudorino posted EvilResident posted You can't play off the disc as far as I know but you can rip the disc and convert the iso.

I'm not an expert on it myself since I just emulate my PS2 games on my PC ever since my 60GB died, but from what I've read I don't think it will be too complicated for somebody who was able to get their console running custom firmware.

Nothing more. Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. I was rather hoping it could work for me Thanks though guys. Nogib posted That sucks.

Thanks for the info though. EvilResident 2 years ago 5 ElDudorino posted
