Secret windows features

But what are those hidden, superior features? Some of these features were mentioned in our deep-dive Windows 11 review. Others, like the new Snap View, could easily remain hidden until you eventually stumble upon them.

For consumers, the TPM requirement may feel more like an obstacle to overcome, rather than a feature to be celebrated. Still, Microsoft predicated the entire Windows 11 platform on the premise that securing your PC via hardware helps protect it from attacks both known and unknown. Just like using a lock on your laptop is an added layer of protection against data theft. It just is. Microsoft demonstrates this at in the video below. When you redock your PC, all of the windows return, right where you left them.

This generally works as advertised within Windows 11, as it did just now when I tested it. Five minutes prior, however, I had undocked my laptop from a Thunderbolt port and then redocked it in the other Thunderbolt port on my PC. That confused poor Windows, and I needed to do a bit of tidying up.

But what you might overlook are the two supplementary apps: Tips and Get Started. It's been available for a couple of years, but as BleepingComputer points out, it can now be used to unlock features tucked away in the latest Insider builds. Rivera hosts a GitHub repository which contains a list of new features found in Insider builds.

You can browse this list here. Items marked in green are new features found in the latest build. Next to the entries are ID numbers, and these are what Mach2 uses to enable a feature. Using the cd command, navigate to where you saved Mach2 and then type mach2.

To remove a feature, repeat the process but replace enable with disable. If you have a large 4K monitor, this feature is especially handy. On top of this, Windows 10 extends multi-monitor support by allowing you to snap to the sides or corners of any monitor, even if the side or corner of a monitor borders another. Plus, snapping a window now brings up Snap Assist, which suggests other running programs to fill the remaining quadrants of your displays in a click.

However with a few simple actions, you can harness Game DVR to record any application or the Windows desktop with ease. All you have to do is open the Xbox app and keep it open, then switch to the program you want to record. Perhaps the ultimate hidden feature included with Windows 10 is DirectX Developers will be able to get more out of the hardware in your system, both on the CPU and GPU side thanks to less driver overhead, support for multiple GPUs, more direct control over hardware, memory pooling, among others.

Combined with new graphical effects in DirectX 12, developers can create truly next-generation games leveraging DX12's power in their game engines. User Comments: 8.
